Tutorial: Pink Poppy Parade

A “field” of Pink Poppies help to brighten up the card against a stunning watercolor wash background.

Cut Cardstock:

Assembly:

Using an Aqua Painter, lightly dampen the piece of watercolor paper so that it is wet but not dripping. Make a watercolor wash by picking up some Flirty Flamingo ink with your Aqua Painter and applying it to the damp watercolor paper, varying the intensity of the color as well as leaving some of the paper showing through – then add some Old Olive ink to these spaces. Make sure you don’t overlap the colors too much so that the colors don’t get muddy. To pick up the color easier, I rub the ink pad on an acrylic block, then pick up the color with my Aqua Painter from the block.

To speed up drying, I use the heat tool to dry this piece. When it is dry, use multipurpose glue to adhere it to one of the 5 3/8″ x 4 1/8″ pieces of Old Olive cardstock. Since the watercolor paper is heavier, I find using glue holds it better that using snail. Layer this piece onto the card base using snail or multipurpose glue.

Use snail to adhere the 4″ x 2″ piece of Designer Paper to the left side of the card front.

Using Memento ink, stamp the small poppies image from the Painted Poppies stamp set onto the piece of Shimmery White cardstock. Color the flowers with the Flirty Flamingo Stampin’ Blends markers. Crop the stamped piece with the fifth largest scalloped rectangle from the Stitched So Sweetly dies and adhere to the card front with dimensionals.

Crop a solid small poppy from the 2 1/2″ x 2″ piece of Flirty Flamingo cardstock using the dies from the Poppy Moments dies. Crop the coordinating poppy outline from the piece of Basic Black cardstock and glue it onto the Flirty Flamingo poppy. Attach to the card front using dimensionals. See photo for placement.

Crop two leaf bases from  4″ x 3 3/4″ piece of Old Olive cardstock using the dies from the Poppy Moments die set. Crop two of the narrower leaf pieces from the piece of Mossy Meadow cardstock using the dies from the Poppy Moments dies set. Use the multipurpose glue to adhere the Mossy Meadow pieces onto the Old Olive pieces. Use multipurpose glue to attach the leaves to the card front. See photo for placement.

Add a couple of Champagne rhinestones to the stamped image piece.

Make a small bow with the Gold Metallic Edge ribbon and attach it near the bottom of the poppy with a glue dot.

Inside:

Using Memento ink, stamp a portion of the small poppies image onto the lower left corner of the remaining piece of Whisper White cardstock. Color the flowers using the Flirty Flamingo Stampin’ Blends markers.

Adhere the Designer Paper strip to the Flirty Flamingo strip, then attach to the top of the Whisper White piece using snail. Use snail to adhere this piece to the remaining piece of Old Olive cardstock, then adhere to the inside of the card.

I chose to leave the inside blank so that I can write my own message.

Envelope:

Use Memento ink to stamp a portion of the small poppies image to the lower left corner of the envelope and color the flowers with the Flirty Flamingo Stampin’ Blends.

I hope you enjoy trying this card! For a live demonstration on how to do the watercolor wash, join my Facebook group to view a broadcast on this technique tomorrow. 🙂

The Ornate Garden Designer Paper is so pretty!  Use it with very little stamping to make this lovely card for a birthday or any occasion.

Cut Cardstock:

Assembly:

Emboss the 5 1/4″ x 4″ piece of Flirty Flamingo cardstock with the Ornate Floral 3D embossing folder, then layer it onto the 5 3/8″ x 4 18″ piece of Whisper White cardstock using snail. Do not adhere to card base yet.

Use the Subtle 3D embossing folder to emboss the 3 1/2″ square piece of Whisper White cardstock.

Use snail to adhere the Ornate Garden Designer Paper squares to the Flirty Flamingo squares. (I chose to use opposite sides of the paper on two of the squares to provide a coordinated contrast). Evenly space the squares onto the embossed 3 1/2″ square of Whisper White cardstock, adhering with dimensionals.

Attach this to the embossed Flirty Flamingo layer using dimensionals. Tie a piece of Gold Metallic Edge Ribbon around this piece and tie into a bow. See photo for placement. Use snail to adhere this piece to the card base.

Using Memento ink, stamp the greeting from the Peaceful Moments stamp set onto the 2 1/2″ square piece of Whisper White cardstock. Crop with the intricate square frame from the Ornate Frames dies, then adhere it to the card front using dimensionals.

Tutorial: Double Daisies

What’s better than one pretty daisy? Two! I had a lot of fun designing this card and I love how rich the Designer Paper and embossed layer look behind the stamped daisies!

Cut Cardstock:

Assembly:

To make the “background layers,” use the Ornate Floral 3D embossing folder to emboss the 5 1/4″ x 2″ piece of Daffodil Delight cardstock. Snail it to the left side of a 5 3/8″ x 4 1/8″ piece of Mint Macaron cardstock, leaving a slight border at the top, bottom and left side. Snail the piece of small daisy Ornate Garden Designer Paper right next to the embossed cardstock on the Mint Macaron layer.

Crop the 3″ x 3″ piece of mint macaron/gold foil Ornate Garden Designer Paper with the seventh largest circle from the Layering Circles dies.

Use Memento ink to stamp the daisy image from the Ornate Style stamp set twice onto the 3″ x3″ piece of Whisper White cardstock.

Color the flower center with the Dark Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blends marker. Use the Light Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blends marker to add a touch of color to the flower petals. I used the black highlight lines as as guide for this. Color the leaves with Light and Dark Mint Macaron Stampin’ Blends and the stems with the Dark Mint Macaron Stampin’ blends. Crop with the sixth largest circle from the Layering Circles dies then use snail to adhere to the Designer Paper circle. Use dimensionals to attach to the card background layer. See photo for placement.

Tie a piece of the Gold Metallic Edge ribbon around the background layers and make a bow right under the stamped daisy piece. Use snail to attach the layered piece to the card base.

Use Memento ink to stamp the greeting from the Peaceful Moments stamp set onto the 3 1/2″ x 2 1/4″ piece of Whisper White cardstock. Crop with the die from the Ornate Frames die set. Attach to the card front with dimensionals. See photo for placement.

Place a small Gilded Gem on each side of the greeting.

Inside:

Use snail to attach the remaining piece of Mint Macaron cardstock to the inside of the card.

Use Memento ink to stamp the daisy image from the Ornate Style stamp set to the lower left corner of the remaining piece of Whisper White cardstock. Color the daisy as you did for the flowers on the front of the card.

Use the daisy border die from the Ornate Border dies to crop the top of the inside stamped piece. Snail this finished piece to the inside of the card. You may need to use multipurpose liquid glue to adhere the die cut top edge to the Mint Macaron layer. I love the look of this border against the color underneath and the design matches the stamped daisies so well!

Envelope:

Use Memento ink to stamp the daisy image from the Ornate Style stamp set to the lower left corner of the envelope. Use the Dark Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blends marker to color the flower center. Add the Light Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blends to the highlighted lines on the flower petals. Color the leaf with the Light and Dark Mint Macaron Stampin’ Blends and the stem with the Dark Mint Macaron Stampin’ Blends.

Tutorial: Anchor of Hope

I have been sending cards out to several of my family members and friends especially during this pandemic where we are all social distancing and are on “lockdown.”  In turn, I have been receiving calls from them telling me how much the card I sent brightened their day, made them smile, and in some cases laugh out loud! Making and mailing a card–such a simple gesture–but oh how appreciated!  Be the reason someone smiles today!

Cut Cardstock:

Assembly:

Use snail to adhere one piece of Balmy Blue cardstock to the card base. Snail the blue/white striped Designer Paper to the card front.

Use snail to adhere the nautical knots Designer Paper to the card front, about 1/2″ from the left side.

Layer the remaining strip of Designer Paper onto the card front, about 1/2″ from the bottom.

Using Night of Navy ink, stamp the greeting from the Sailing Home stamp set onto the 3 1/4″ x 2″ piece of Whisper White cardstock. Crop with the fourth smallest die from the Stitched Nested Labels dies. Attach to the card front with dimensionals. See photo for placement.

Crop the 3″ x 3″ piece of Night of Navy cardstock with the third largest scalloped circle die from the Layering Circles dies.

Stamp the anchor from the Sailing Home stamp set with Night of Navy ink onto the 3″ x 3″ piece of Whisper White cardstock AFTER stamping off once onto a scrap of paper. The anchor image should be slightly tilted and over to the left side just a bit. Crop with the second largest circle from the Stitched Shapes dies, then use snail to attach this piece to the Night of Navy scalloped circle.

Use Night of Navy ink to stamp the anchor onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock. The ink should be full strength so that the image is a little darker than the other anchor you stamped. Crop with the corresponding die from the Smooth Sailing dies or use your paper snips to fussy cut the anchor.

Thread a piece of the Navy/Sahara Sand Baker’s Twine through the hole at the top of the anchor and loop it over to secure in place.  Use dimensionals to place the anchor over the other stamped anchor so that part of the other anchor shows. See photo for placement.  Use dimensionals to attach this completed piece to the card front. See photo for placement.

Tutorial: Keeping in Touch (“Thinking of You” Card)

The current world-wide pandemic we are all facing has left thousands, if not millions of people feeling lonely, apprehensive, frustrated, and anxious. The “huggers” among us are going through withdrawal, grandparents can’t hug grandchildren, friends can’t offer a supportive hug to friends, families can’t visit other family members living in a different house. Many people have taken to FaceTime, Zoom, and other digital ways to communicate with family and friends in real time.

Another great way to bring a smile to someone is good old-fashioned snail mail. Who doesn’t like to receive “happy mail”? What better time than this to get creative and send some cards to your friends and family!

Here is the first in a series of fun cards to help brighten someone’s day. I had fun creating it and I know you will too!

Cut Cardstock:

Assembly:

Use the Subtles 3D embossing folder to emboss one 5 1/4″ x 3 7/8″ piece of Whisper White cardstock.

Using Memento ink, stamp the heart /cloud image from the Over the Moon stamp set onto this piece and color the heart with the Dark Real Red Stampin’ Blends marker. Normally I would say to stamp before embossing, but in this case, the texture is so subtle that you can easily stamp over it.  Adhere the embossed piece to one of the 5 1/4″ x 4″ pieces of Basic Black cardstock. Do NOT attach to card base yet.

Use snail to attach the 1 1/4″ strip of Designer Paper to the 1 3/8″ wide strip of Basic Black cardstock. Adhere to the embossed Whisper White layer with snail.

Wrap a piece of White Baker’s Twine around the Designer Paper layer and tie into a bow toward the right side. Use snail to attach this entire piece to the card base. See photo for placement.

Using Memento ink, stamp the cow image from the Over The Moon stamp set onto the 3 1/4″ x 2 1/4″ piece of Whisper White cardstock.

Color the cow’s hooves with the Dark Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blends marker. Color the spots, tail and tuft of fur on the top of his head with the Light Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blends marker. Color the nostrils and inside of ears with the Dark Petal Pink Stampin’ Blends marker and the cowbell with the Dark Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blends marker.

Crop with the third largest oval from the Stitched Shapes dies. Use snail to adhere this to a piece of Real Red cardstock that has been cropped with the fifth largest scalloped oval from the Layering Oval Dies. Attach this to the card front with dimensionals. See photo for placement.

Use Memento ink to stamp the greeting from the Peaceful Moments stamp set to the 2 3/4″ x 1 3/4″ piece of Whisper White cardstock and crop with the second largest oval from the Stitched Shapes Dies.

Use snail to layer this onto a piece of Real Red cardstock that has been cropped with the third largest scalloped oval from the Layered Ovals Dies. Use dimensionals to attach to the card front – see photo for placement.

Inside:

Use snail to attach the remaining strip of Real Red Designer Paper to the remaining strip of Basic Black cardstock. Attach this strip near the top of the remaining piece of Whisper White cardstock. Wrap a piece of White Baker’s Twine around the Designer Paper strip and tie into a small bow toward the left side.

Use Memento ink to stamp the sentiment from the Tags In Bloom stamp set to the Whisper White piece. Snail the completed piece to the inside of the card.

Envelope:

Use Memento ink to stamp the heart/cloud image from the Over the Moon stamp set onto the lower left corner of the envelope. Color the heart with the Dark Real Red Stampin’ Blends marker.
