Welcoming Woods & Frightfully Cute Bats

Halloween will soon be upon us! While pumpkins and Jack o’ Lanterns are usually what comes to mind when Halloween is mentioned, for this card, I changed it up a bit and used the little bat image from the Frightfully Cute stamp set. In late summer and early Autumn especially, in the evening just before sundown, the little bats fly among the treetops in my neighborhood chasing insects. That inspired me to use the trees from the Welcoming Woods stamp set. I love how they “pop” against the blended yellow/orange background. While I’m not really a fan of bats, I must admit I like the way they look on this card!

Very little cardstock is required for this card:

  • Card Base: Very Vanilla – 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, score at 4 1/4″
  • First Layer: Basic Black- 5 3/8″ x 4 1/8″, cut two
  • Second Layer: Very Vanilla –  5 1/4″ x 4″, cut two
  • Greeting: Scrap of Basic White

Assembly:
  • Adhere one piece of the Basic Black cardstock to the card front and one on the inside.
  • Using a Blender Brush, create the background on one piece of Very Vanilla cardstock using Daffodil Delight, Crushed Curry, and Pumpkin Pie inks. Use a light touch when applying the ink – you can always add more if you want the color darker. Start with the Daffodil Delight ink, then add a little Crushed Curry. When you are satisfied with the depth of color, add a little Pumpkin Pie ink. Refer to the photo for color suggestions.
  • Use Early Espresso ink to stamp the tree image from the Welcoming Woods stamp set onto the blended background.
  • Using Cajun Craze ink, stamp the tiny leaves image several times among the trees. Refer to photo for placement.
  • Use Memento ink to stamp three bats flying around the trees, and the little cat in the lower-left corner looking at the trees. Adhere the stamped piece to the card front.
  • Use Memento ink to stamp the greeting onto a scrap of Basic White cardstock and crop it with the label die from the Frightful Tags die set. Adhere the greeting to the card front with dimensional.

For the inside:
  • Use Memento ink to stamp the sentiment and bats onto the remaining piece of Very Vanilla cardstock. Refer to photo for placement. Adhere the completed piece to the inside of the card.

Envelope:
  • If desired, stamp a couple of bats onto the lower-left corner of the envelope using Memento ink.

I really enjoy all the Halloween festivities and decorations, but I must say that this card really appeals to me since it is more “pretty” than cute or “spooky.” Maybe it’s just the lovely blended background or the pretty trees and falling leaves,  but I just get drawn in when I look at it!

Be sure to check out the other cards I’ve made using this set!
