For my video this week, I wanted to explore the northern lights technique to use as a background for a wintry scene. I haven’t seen the northern lights in person, but I have seen the southern lights (Aurora Australis), which is the same thing, only in the southern hemisphere. There is something so mesmerizing about watching this natural phenomenon. Of course, photos and pictures do not do it justice. That being said, it is fun to play with this technique as each time you do it, you get a slightly different, yet equally impressive result.
If you missed the live demonstration, you can watch the replay here. It’s a great technique to use for Christmas cards as well as any winter scene card.
Here are the measurements for the card I made:
- Card Base: Night of Navy – 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, score at 4 1/4″
- First Layer: Misty Moonlight – 5 1/4″ x 4″
- Mountains: Basic White – 5 1/4″ x 4″
- Trees: Scraps of Shaded Spruce
- Snow Mounds: Scraps of Basic White
- Star: Silver Foil Scrap
- Polar Bear and Rabbit are fussy cut from Beary Christmas DSP
- Inside Layer: Basic White – 5 1/4″ x 4″
Here is the list of supplies I used to make this card. In addition to those listed, you will also need a piece of scrap paper to use as a mask. Use this link if you’d like to purchase these or any other Stampin’Up! product – thanks so much for your support!
