FB Live Recap: Three Cards with Simple Sketch #2 Plus a Bonus Fun-Fold!

Here is another set of cards I made using the same card sketch. They look so different because of the colors, DSP, and stamp sets used, but the simple sketch is the same. Use this sketch with your favorite stamp sets, colors, and DSP to make the cards your own, or feel free to CASE (Copy And Share Everything) them if you wish. One of the fun things I like about creating off of a card sketch is that once I make one card, I find myself looking at other stamp sets and wondering what it would look like using the sketch.  If you missed the live presentation, you can watch the replay here.

The basic card sketch is below. It’s made on the average A-2 size card front (5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″).  Use DSP or embossed cardstock for your first layer. Add your focal point of either a stamped image, die cut or greeting. Add any complimentary embellishments as desired.

I’ve included the complete supply list of all of the products I used to create these cards if you want to re-create them.

Here are the basic measurements for this sketch:
  • Card Base: 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, score at 4 1/4″
  • First Layer: DSP or Embossed Cardstock – 5 1/4″ x 4″
  • Vertical Strips: 3″ x 1″, cut two of coordinating DSP
  • Horizontal Strip: Coordinating DSP 4″ x 1/2″  OR  4″ x  3/4″
  • Focal Point: Stamped Images or Die Cuts as desired
  • Inside: Basic White 5 1/4″ x 4″
  • Optional Decorative Strips for Inside: Cardstock or DSP 4″ X 5/8″ AND 4″ X 1/2″

The front of this card opens in the center to reveal a great fun-fold card with lots of DSP to decorate it.

Here is the diagram of how to score and cut a 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ piece of cardstock to create the fun-fold base. If you have difficulty understanding this, I explained it on the video.

Besides the 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ piece of Old Olive cardstock for the base, here are the measurements for the other pieces of cardstock and DSP to complete this card:
  • Front Side Panels: Flowering Zinnia DSP – 5 3/8″ x 2″ (cut tw0)
  • Front Circles: Old Olive – 4″ x 4″; Basic White – 2 1/4″ x 2 1/4″
  • Flower Stem/Flower Bud on Front: Scraps of Mossy Meadow, Cherry Cobbler and Melon Mambo
  • Inside Side Panels: Flowering Zinnia DSP – 5 3/8″ x 2″ (cut tw0)
  • Top & Bottom Center Panels: Flowering Zinnia DSP – 4″ x 1″ (cut two)
  • Center Panel: Old Olive – 4″ x 3 1/4″ and Flowering Zinnia DSP –  3 7/8″ x 3 1/8″

FB Live Recap: Three Cards with Simple Card Sketch #1

I’m so happy to be able to do Facebook Live videos again! There have been so many new products being introduced through the new catalog as well as online exclusives. I wanted to try something a little different here and introduce a very simple card sketch, making several cards using some of the pretty new Designer Series Papers that are currently out. I hope to introduce a new sketch every week and show how to use it to create many cards. Hopefully, you will be able to see this as a tool to design your own cards with the supplies you have on hand. Of course, you’re always welcome to CASE (Copy And Share Everything) any of my designs. For that reason, I’ve included the product list of everything I’ve used to make these cards.

The basic card sketch is below. It is made on the average A-2 size card front (5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″). Once you have the basic layers, you can add any focal point you like or simply a label with a greeting. My focal points for these cards include either stamped images, a DSP image which was fussy cut, or greetings on various labels.

Here are the measurements for the base and layers of each card:
  • Card Base: 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, score at 4 1/4″
  • First Layer: 5 1/4″ x 4″
  • DSP Matt Layers: Cut two different patterns DSP at 4 ” x 3″
  • Focal Point/ Scraps of Basic White or whatever you’re using as your point of interest

Note that on my card with the little frog, I actually added one more layer of Basic White at 5 3/8″ x 4 1/8″ under the 5 1/4″ x 4″ layer. This is an option if you feel that your colors need that extra little pop of white between your colored layers.

Join me next Tuesday at for another card sketch and ways to use it.

Here’s the list of all the products I used to create my three cards. If you would like to purchase any of them, you can shop with me here. As always, thank you for your support!

FB Video Recap: Ideas for Citrus Blooms Cards

In my last video, I showed you how to color one of the beautiful stamped images from the Citrus Blooms stamp set with Stampin’ Blends markers. If you missed it, you can watch the video here.

For this video, I have made use of the coordinating Mediterranean Blooms Designer Paper (DSP) as the focal point of each card. There are dies that will crop the oranges from the DSP, but if you’d like lemons on the card front, you will have to fussy cut them. I left each of these cards blank inside so that I could write my own message, as lately, I seem to need more of these types of cards.  Of course, you have the option of stamping a sentiment of your choice. Check out the video here.

Here’s the cardstock you will need for the card with the lemons:

  • Card Base: Daffodil Delight – 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, score at 4 1/4″.
  • First Layer: Basic White –  5 1/4″ x 4″, embossed with the Exposed Brick EF.
  • Second Layer: Basic White – 5 1/4″ x 4″, cropped with the two large Citrus Blooms dies.
  • Lemons: Fussy Cut one single bunch and one double bunch of lemons from the DSP. Glue the single lemon to the card front and use dimensionals to attach the double bunch of lemons.
  • Extra Small Leaves: Scraps of Distressed Gold paper
  • Greeting: Scrap of Basic White, stamped with Memento ink and cropped with the Unbounded Love die, attach with dimensionals.
  • Inside Layer: Basic White – 5 1/4″  4″. If desired, stamp a couple of small flowers onto the lower right corner using Lemon Lolly ink. I also used the light shade of a Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blends marker to color the flower centers.

This card uses the dies to crop the oranges and also three small flowers from the DSP to decorate the front of the card. The large leafy die makes a pretty background for the oranges too!

  • Card Base: Lemon Lolly – 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, score at 4 1/4″.
  • First Layer: Lemon Lolly – 5 3/8″ x 4 1/8″, embossed with the Fern 3D EF.
  • For the Background Matt:  Crop a piece of Basic White cardstock with the large label die. Crop a 5 1/4″ x 4″ piece of Garden Green cardstock with the large label die and the large floral frame die and glue to the white label piece. Glue this to the card front.
  • Oranges: Crop the triple bunch of oranges from the DSP using the coordinating die and three flowers from the same paper using the two larger and one smaller dies. The oranges are attached to the front with dimensionals. The two larger flowers are glued to the upper left corner and the smaller flower is attached with a dimensional slightly over the other two flowers. Touch the flowers with Wink of Stella to add a little glimmer.
  • Greeting: If desired, stamp the greeting onto a 3/8″ strip of Basic White cardstock, trim as desired and attach to the card front with dimensionals.

  • Inside: Basic White – 5 1/4″ x 4″
  • Decorative Strips:  Garden Green – 5/8″ x 4″, Lemon Lolly – 1/2″ x 4″

Again, for this card, you will use the coordinating die to crop the single orange from the DSP.

  • Card Base: Peach Pie – 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, score at 4 1/4″.
  • First Layer: Basic White – 5 3/8″ x 4 1/8″, emboss with the Fern 3D EF.
  • Second Layer: Crop the DSP using the large label die and glue to the card front.
  •  Greenery Layer: Crop a scrap of garden Green cardstock with the large greenery die and glue to the card front. I also cropped the large greenery frame and then cut a few pieces off of it to add as more background for the focal point of the card.
  • Orange: Crop the single orange from the DSP and use dimensionals to attach to the card front.
  • Greeting: Stamp the greeting with Memento ink onto a scrap of Basic White cardstock and crop with the die from the Unbounded Love die set, attach to the card front with dimensionals.
  • Touch the flowers with Wink of Stella to add a little glimmer.
  • If desired, place a small yellow Opal Pound gem onto the greeting.

  • Inside Layer: Basic White –  5 3/8″  4 1/8″
  • Decorative Strips: Peach Pie –  5/8″ x 4 1/8″, Matching DSP – 1/2″ x 4 1/8

If desired, stamp a couple of small flowers onto the lower left corner of the envelopes using Lemon Lolly ink and color the flower centers with the light shade of a Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blends marker.

I hope you enjoy these cards and will give them a try. If you’d like to purchase any of the products, I have the supply list below. Shop with me here to receive a free gift from me as well!
