Tutorial: Vintage Tasteful Touches

The Tasteful Touches stamp set has some really pretty images which I have used several times to make cards. The flowers look lovely in just about any color you choose. For this card, I thought I would try using the images to make a more ‘vintage’ looking card, and with these colors, I think it hits the mark!

Cut Cardstock:

Assembly:

Adhere one piece of Rococo Rose cardstock to the card base, then adhere a 5 1/4″ x 4″ piece of Very Vanilla cardstock to that.

For the stamped 5 1/8″ x 3 7/8″ Very Vanilla layer, use Crumb Cake ink to stamp the leaf spray from the Tasteful Touches stamp set towards the upper left and lower right portions of the cardstock. Use Rococo Rose ink to stamp the feather image several times going off the cardstock in some areas. If you want a lighter color of the feather, stamp off on a piece of scrap paper once before stamping onto the cardstock. Using Sahara Sand ink, stamp the background image several times onto the cardstock; you may be stamping over the previous images in some spots. Refer to photo for the stamped images.

Use the Tasteful Textile embossing folder to emboss the stamped piece, then adhere to the card front with Stampin’ Seal.

Crop the gold foil piece with the rectangular ornate frame from the Ornate Frames dies. Using Crumb Cake ink, stamp the greeting from the Tasteful Touches stamp set onto the 3 1/4″ x 1 1/2″ piece of Very Vanilla cardstock, then crop with the die that corresponds with the ornate rectangle.

Attach the greeting  to the gold frame with dimensionals, then attach to the card front with dimensionals.

Use Versamark ink to stamp two flower images onto the 5″ x 2″ piece of Very Vanilla cardstock. Sprinkle with gold embossing powder and set with heat tool. Color the flowers with the Light Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends marker.

Fussy cut the flowers. Use Stampin’ Seal to attach the flowers to the card front, sliding them slightly underneath the greeting. Refer to photo for placement.

Add a few Gilded Gems to the card front for added interest.

Inside:

Adhere the remaining Rococo Rose piece of cardstock to the inside of the card. Use Crumb Cake ink to stamp the leaf spray onto the remaining piece of Very Vanilla cardstock in the upper left corner and lower right corner. Stamp the sentiment from the Peaceful Moments stamp set onto the middle of the cardstock. Adhere the completed piece to the inside of the card.

For the envelope, stamp a portion of the leaf spray onto the lower left corner with Crumb Cake ink.

I hope you like this card and that it showed you how versatile this stamp set is. As I was making this, I also thought it would look really different if you use silver embossing powder and Seaside Spray  ink for the feathers and the coordinating cardstock. I may have to try it!

Tutorial: Pretty Bird with Greenery

The stone brick background paper just make this little bird with the greenery “pop.” The paper is from the new In Good Taste Designer Paper.

Cut Cardstock:

Assembly:

Adhere one piece of Gray Granite cardstock to the card base using Stampin’ Seal. Layer the piece of light gray stone brick Designer Paper onto the card front with Stampin’ Seal.

Use the Forever Flourishing dies to crop the following leaves:

Crop one large fern leaf and two tiny leaf stems from the Pear Pizzazz cardstock.

Crop the flat leaf stem from Soft Seafoam cardstock.

Crop the curved leaf stem out of Champagne Foil.

Use Pear Pizzazz ink to stamp the leaf stem and crop with the corresponding die.

Using Rich Razzleberry ink, stamp the berry image from the Forever Fern stamp set twice onto the 6″ x 2″ piece of Whisper White cardstock. Use Memento ink to stamp the bird from the Free As A Bird stamp set and the ‘hello’ from the Forever Fern stamp set onto this piece of Whisper White cardstock.

Crop the berries with the matching die from the Forever Flourishing die set. Using the small tag dies from the Ornate Frames die set, crop the ‘hello’. Color the bird with Stampin Blends markers using Light Daffodil Delight for its beak, Light Smoky Slate for the birds body and Light Rich Razzleberry for the belly of the bird. Blend the line of color where they meet just under the birds wing by going over the Smoky Slate just a bit with the Rich Razzleberry. Carefully fussy cut the bird.

Arrange all of the leaf stems in a pleasing pattern. You may want to hold the bird in place so you know where you want to place the stems. When you are satisfied, use multipurpose glue to adhere them to the card front.

Add the berry stems, using glue or seal to adhere them over the leaves.

Using dimensionals, attach the bird near the top of the greenery. Attach the greeting to the right of greenery using dimensionals. Tie a small bow with the Baker’s Twine and use a glue dot to attach it near the left side of the greeting. See photo of card front for placement.

Please note – Baker’s Twine has retired since I designed this project. You can substitute the Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon in its place.

Inside:

Adhere the remaining piece of Gray Granite cardstock to the inside of the card. Use Rich Razzleberry ink to stamp the berry image near the left side of the remaining piece of Whisper White cardstock, down about 1/2′ from the top. Using the small leaf stem from the Forever Fern stamp set, stamp the leaf image twice with Pear Pizzazz ink to the left of the berry stem and again near the lower right edge of the berry stem. See photo for placement.

Adhere the Designer Paper strip near the top of the stamped piece, covering the tops of the stems. Tie a piece of Baker’s Twine around the adhered strip and tie into a small bow. As an alternative, make a small bow with the Crinkled Seam Binding ribbon and adhere it to the strip with a glue dot. Adhere the completed piece to the inside of the card.

Envelope:

Use Pear Pizzazz ink to stamp the small leaf image from the Forever Fern stamp set to the lower left corner of the envelope.

Quick Tip: Cleaning Stazon Ink off of Your Stamps

I’ve been using Stazon ink for several years when I am creating stamped projects that I’ll be watercoloring or using water based markers or watercolor pencils. It’s a love-hate relationship! Since you can’t use a water-based ink if you are planning on using other water based techniques with your stamped image, Stazon is the ink of choice.

I use Stazon cleaner when I am cleaning my stamps, but I’ve often found it just a little tedious to have to rub it off with a soft cloth and possibly have to repeat the whole process. That being said, I stumbled across a much easier way to get my stamps clean.

Here’s a stamp with Stazon ink:

Here’s what it looks like when you’ve put Stazon cleaner on it:

Now, here’s the next step which makes will make your life much easier! Squirt regular liquid hand soap on top of the Stazon cleaner!  It may look a bit messy:

Now all you have to do is rinse it with water and bam!  Clean stamp!

Pat the stamp dry and you are good to go. Hope this little tip helps you!

Tutorial: Forever Fern Hello

I love the new Forever Flourishing dies that are part of the Forever Fern bundle! There are lots of different leaf stem dies that make a lovely greenery bouquet when used together.

Cut Cardstock:

Assembly:

For the background, use the larger flower border die from the Ornate Borders dies to crop the bottom edge of one 5 1/4″ x 4″ piece of Soft Seafoam cardstock. Using Soft Seafoam ink, randomly stamp the dot image from the Forever Fern stamp set onto this piece.

To add a little more texture, emboss this piece with the Tasteful Textile embossing folder. Snail the completed piece to the card front.

From the Forever Flourishing dies, crop the fern stem out of Pear Pizzazz cardstock.

Crop the broader leaf stem out of the 3 1/4″ x 2 1/2″ piece of Soft Seafoam cardstock.

Crop two small leaf stems and two curved leaf stems from Gold Foil.

On the 3 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ piece of Whisper White cardstock, stamp two berry sprays from the Forever Fern stamp set using Pretty Peacock ink. *Stamp off on a piece of scrap paper first so that the color is not too dark.

Crop the stems with the corresponding die from the Forever Flourishing dies.

Using Pretty Peacock ink, stamp the greeting from the Tasteful Touches stamp set onto the remaining 3 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ piece of Whisper White cardstock. Crop with the third largest oval from the Stitched Shapes dies.

Crop the piece of Pretty Peacock cardstock with the fifth largest scalloped oval die from the Layering Ovals dies.

Snail these two pieces together.

Arrange all of the leaf stems and berry stems on the card front and glue in place. I cut the gold curved leaves in half to make it look like there are four stems. You may want to hold the greeting in place so that you have a better idea of where to place the stems. Use dimensionals to attach the greeting. Refer to photo for placement of the stems and greeting.

Inside:

Adhere the remaining piece of Soft Seafoam cardstock to the inside of the card using snail.

Use Pretty Peacock ink to stamp the sentiment from the Forever Fern stamp set to the remaining piece of Whisper White cardstock. Using Pretty Peacock ink and the berry stem image from the Forever Fern stamp set, stamp off on a piece of scrap paper then stamp onto the lower left side of this piece. Use Soft Seafoam ink to stamp the small leaf stem twice near the berry stem. Refer to photo for placement. Use snail to adhere the completed piece to the inside of the card.

Envelope:

Stamp the berry stem and two small leaf stems like you did for the inside of the card onto the lower left corner of the envelope. Refer to photo for placement.
