From ‘How’ to ‘Wow’ #6: Mama & Baby Bluebirds

Here is another very simple card sketch with oh-so-elegant results! Notice that the “shapes” on the sketch don’t necessarily have to be “shapes” on the finished card. I replaced the orange “scalloped circle” with the larger bird image and the green “scalloped ovals” with the stamped leaves images.

Cut Cardstock:

Assembly:

Using Stazon ink, stamp the three leaf image from the Free As A Bird stamp set onto the lower left corner of a 5 1/4″ x 4″ piece of Seaside Spray cardstock. Use an Aqua Painter to color the leaves with Old Olive ink. The easiest way to do this is to place some ink on an acrylic block or just squeeze the closed stamp pad until some ink transfers to the inside of the lid, then pick up the ink with your Aqua Painter.

When you have finished applying color to the leaves, use the Subtles embossing folder to emboss this piece then snail it to the card front.

Use Stazon ink to stamp the four birds on the branch image from the Free As A Bird stamp set onto the 5″ x 3″ piece of Whisper White cardstock. Stamp the small ‘hello’ greeting on the lower right side under the branch. Crop this piece with the second largest Nesting Labels die.

Use Stazon ink to stamp the larger bird image onto the scrap of Whisper White cardstock.

Use an Aqua Painter to color the birds with Seaside Spray, So Saffron and Crumb Cake ink. After applying the Seaside Spray ink, I laid down the So Saffron ink first, then used the Crumb Cake to add a little shading to the birds. Use Blushing Bride ink for the flowers, Old Olive ink for the leaves, and Crumb Cake for the branch, again using an Aqua Painter to apply the color.

Use your Paper Snips to trim around the large bird.

Attach the bird images to the card front with dimensionals. See photo for placement. Tie a small bow with Whisper White Baker’s Twine and attach to the left side of the branch image.

Place one large pearl and two medium pearls on the upper right corner of the card front.

Inside:

Snail the remaining piece of Seaside Spray cardstock to the inside of the card.

Use Stazon ink to stamp the greeting from the Forever Lovely stamp set, and one leaf cluster from the Free As A Bird stamp set onto the remaining piece of Whisper White cardstock. Color the leaves with Old Olive ink using your AquaPainter.

Snail the strip of Seaside Spray cardstock on the left side of the stamped piece, leaving just a very thin white border. Tie a piece of Whisper Shite Baker’s Twine around the Seaside Spray strip. Snail the finished piece to the inside of the card.

Envelope:

Carry the card design to your envelope by using Stazon ink to stamp a leaf cluster on the lower left corner of the envelope. Color with Old Olive ink using your Aqua Painter.

Thanks for taking a look at this card sketch! You can always try it with your favorite colors. I think coordinating the background color with the color of the birds really adds to the elegance of the card, as well as adding the pearls in the corner for a little bling.
