Tutorial: Peony Window

The Prized Peony stamp set has lovely images, and the one I love the most is the large flower with the flower bud. I remember as a kid my mom had beautiful peonies in our backyard, and although I have a few in my yard, they pale in comparison to the ones she had. Peonies come in several different colors and I chose to use Magenta Madness ink, which closely matches some of the pink varieties. I hope you like this card!

Cut Cardstock:

Assembly:

Emboss one piece of the Crumb Cake cardstock with the Brick and Mortar embossing folder, then adhere it to the card base with Stampin’ Seal.

If you haven’t done so yet, cut the 3 1/4″ square piece of Magenta Madness cardstock in half both ways so that you have four squares measuring 1 5/8″. Use the corner rounder side of the Detailed Trio punch to crop opposite corners of each square. Refer to photo.

Use Stazon ink to stamp the large flower from the Prized Peony stamp set onto the 3″ square piece of Very Vanilla cardstock. Use Magenta Madness ink to color the flower and bud with a water painter. I find the easiest way to do this  is to put some on a tile and pick it up with the water painter. In the same way, color the stem and leaves with Mossy Meadow ink. Use a sponge to lightly apply some Crumb Cake ink to the Very Vanilla background.

When the ink has dried, cut the stamped peony in half both ways so that each square measures 1 1/2″. Crop opposite corners of each square with the corner rounder side of the Detailed Trio punch. Be careful that you are cropping the correct corners!

Adhere the stamped peony squares to the Magenta Madness squares with Seal, making sure to match the rounded corners of each piece.

Attach the squares to the card front with dimensionals, making sure they are in the correct order. Refer to card photo.

Stamp the greeting from the Fancy Phrases stamp set onto the strip of Very Vanilla cardstock using Magenta Madness ink. Flag the ends of the stamped greeting with your paper snips, then adhere it to the strip of Magenta Madness cardstock. Flag the ends of the Magenta Madness strip to match the greeting. Use dimensionals to attach the greeting to the card front.

Inside:

Adhere the remaining piece of Crumb Cake cardstock to the inside of the card. Stamp the sentiment from the Fancy Phrases stamp set to the remaining piece of Very Vanilla cardstock with Magenta Madness ink. Use Stazon ink to stamp the smaller flower from the Prized Peony stamp set onto the lower left corner of this piece. Color as you did before using a water painter with Magenta Madness and Mossy Meadow inks. Adhere the completed piece to the inside of the card.

Use Stazon ink to stamp the small flower to the lower left corner of the envelope. Color it like you did for the inside of the card.

I hope you enjoy trying this idea for your cards! It works very well for any larger stamped image and creates a very unique design.
