Free as a Bird in a Wreath

I must tell you, I was late getting into the game with the Arrange a Wreath Bundle, but now that I have it, I just can’t get enough of it! It has very versatile stamps that can be used year-round, but one thing that I absolutely LOVE is the Wreath Builder dies that can be incorporated with so many other stamp sets. For this card, I used the bird from the Free As A Bird stamp set perched on top of a wreath. I love the soft colors of the Butterfly Bijou DSP background and picked up these colors in the wreath and bird.

Cut Cardstock:
  • Card Base: Basic White – 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, score at 4 1/4″
  • First Layer: Bermuda bay – 5 3/8″ x 4 1/8″, cut two
  • Second Layer(front): Butterfly Bijou DSP – 5 1/4″ x 4″
  • Second Layer (inside): Basic White – 5 1/4″ x 4″
  • Wreath: Pear Pizzazz  – 4″ x 4″, crop with intricate wreath die;  Soft Sea Foam – 4″ x4″, crop with flat-leaf wreath die
  • Bird: Basic White – 2 1/4″ x 1 3/4″
  • Flowers: Scraps of Magenta Madness
  • Inside strips: Bermuda Bay – 5 1/4″ x 5/8″; Butterfly Bijou DSP – 5 1/4″ x 1/2″

Assembly:

Use Memento ink to stamp the greeting on the upper left corner of the DSP, then layer it onto one of the pieces of Bermuda Bay cardstock. Tie a piece of Magenta Madness ribbon around this before adhering it to the card base. See photo for placement.

Use multipurpose glue to adhere the wreath pieces onto the card front, placing the Soft Sea Foam piece on top of the Pear Pizzazz piece.

Use memento ink to stamp the large bird from the Free as a Bird stamp set onto the small piece of Basic White cardstock.  Color the beak with the Pumpkin Pie watercolor pencil. Color the bird’s body with the Melon Mambo and Early Espresso watercolor pencils and smooth the colors with a blender pen. Be careful not to blend over the Memento ink too much or it will smudge! Fussy cut the bird and use dimensional to attach it to the wreath – see photo for placement.

Crop five small flowers from Magenta madness cardstock and use mini-dimensionals to attach to the wreath – see photo for placement. Place a small pearl in the center of each flower.

Inside:

Adhere the DSP strip onto the Bermuda bay strip then attach it to the remaining piece of Basic White cardstock. Stamp with a sentiment of your choice or leave blank to write your own message.

Envelope:

Use Memento ink to stamp the leaf image from the Free As A Bird stamp set onto the lower-left corner of the envelope. Color the leaf with the Light Soft Sea Foam Stampin’ Blends marker.

You can easily switch up the look of this card by changing the DSP and matching cardstock. Go bold or keep it in the pastel family – the choice is yours!
