From ‘How’ to ‘Wow’ #4: Hello Birdie

Here is another simple card sketch you can use to create an elegant card. Using Designer Paper for the triangle shapes on the bottom as well as embossing the background layer with the Subtle embossing folder are quick and easy ways to add interest to the design. For the three small circles on the sketch I substituted several small flowers. The light blue oval used as the focal point on the sketch can be any oblong shape – I chose to use the new Nested Label Framelits.

Cut Cardstock:

Assembly:

Emboss one piece of Soft Seafoam cardstock with the Subtle embossing folder and snail to card front.

Cut the Designer Series Paper on the diagonal to form two triangles. Take one of the triangles and trim the 2  7/8″ side down to 2 1/2″ so that the triangles differ slightly in height.

Snail the triangles to the card front, overlapping the left triangle over the right triangle.

Using Stazon ink, stamp one large and five small flowers from the Free As A Bird stamp set onto the scrap of Whisper White cardstock.

Use an Aqua Painter to color the flowers with Grapefruit Grove ink. The easiest way to do this is to apply a bit of ink to an acrylic block then pick up the color with the Aqua Painter – start light; you can always add more color.

Use your paper snips to fussy cut the flowers. Use a Dimensional to attach the larger flower to the card front where the two Designer Paper triangles meet.

Snail one small flower just to the left and slightly under the large flower. Use Dimensionals to attach the remaining small flowers to the card front along the top of the triangles. See photo for placement of flowers.

Place one large pearl on the large flower center and medium pearls on the small flower centers.

Use Stazon ink to stamp the large bird from the Free As A Bird stamp set onto the piece of Shimmery White cardstock. Crop the bird image with the 4th largest Nested Labels framelit.

Use an Aqua Painter to color the bird with Grapefruit Grove and Crumb Cake ink. Use Stazon ink to stamp the small ‘Hello’ greeting to the upper left of the bird. Adhere this piece to the card front using Dimensionals.

Inside:

Snail the remaining piece of Soft Seafoam cardstock to the inside of the card.

Snail the 1/2″ strip of Designer Paper to the top of the Whisper White cardstock, leaving a narrow border of white showing at the top.

Use Stazon ink to stamp one large and two small flowers to the lower left corner on the Whisper White cardstock. Color the flowers with Grapefruit Grove ink using an Aqua Painter.

Using Stazon ink, stamp the greeting on the Whisper White cardstock. I combined a greeting from the Free As A Bird and Beautiful Bouquet stamp sets. Snail the completed piece to the inside of the card.

Envelope:

Use Stazon ink to stamp one large flower to the lower left corner of the envelope. Color the flower with Grapefruit Grove ink using an Aqua Painter.

I hope you will give this card a try and also use the sketch to create other cards!
